Which are the main goals for the IAA 2024?
The industry is once again showcasing its immense capacity for innovation. This year’s message is also an invitation: Meet the pioneers of transformation at IAA TRANSPORTATION. Simultaneously, the IAA TRANSPORTATION serves as a global platform to highlight areas that still need improvement on the path to climate-friendly mobility. Infrastructure will play a crucial role in this regard. Therefore, it is essential that we clearly communicate to all stakeholders, including those in politics, that our industry is providing ready-to-market solutions, but now the necessary infrastructure must also be developed.
What focal points and key topics are planned for the IAA 2024 in Hannover and why were they chosen?
We always align with the needs of our exhibitors and partners. A significant topic this year will be charging infrastructure. We face the challenge of improving access to the power grid (specifically for charging electric trucks). Additionally, we are focusing on the ongoing digitalization and examining how AI impacts the transport and logistics sector. Our IAA Conference, which I highly recommend, will offer exciting insights into this and other topics, such as sustainable logistics, autonomous driving, and smart infrastructure, from industry leaders like Daimler Truck, Bosch, and Continental.
How has the IAA evolved compared to previous editions and what new elements or improvements are planned for the upcoming event?
This year, we have more exhibitors than in 2022, including a 70% increase in international exhibitors, underscoring the relevance of IAA TRANSPORTATION as a catalyst for the industry. In 2022, the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic were still noticeable, which affected participation. Additionally, the weekend will feature an entirely new concept. The so-called Driver and Family Weekend will offer numerous attractions for drivers and families, such as a stage, a truck experience show, and a solar-powered Ferris wheel.
Which are in your opinion the most important market trends for transportation and mobility industry?
That’s a great question. I believe we can look forward to a fireworks display of innovation from the industry at the IAA TRANSPORTATION, with over 70 press conferences scheduled. It is definitely worth coming to the IAA TRANSPORTATION yourself to gain a comprehensive overview of the most important market trends and experience them firsthand. For example, you can participate in test drives during the IAA Test Drives to see the latest innovations in action.
Which will be, in your opinion, the most impactful technological innovations for the sector and how will it evolve in the next years?
This is a good question that cannot be answered in a generalized way. I would highlight several overarching themes as generally groundbreaking innovations: autonomous driving, propulsion technologies, and charging infrastructure. Our industry is known for delivering results and is undergoing a groundbreaking transformation to enable climate-friendly mobility.
Key focus areas include commercial vehicles such as transporters, trucks, trailers, and bodies. There is a significant emphasis on alternative drives, including electric vehicles, hydrogen vehicles, and hybrid drives. Digital solutions are also at the forefront, with advancements in telematics, fleet management, driver assistance systems, autonomous driving, and AI playing pivotal roles. Infrastructure developments, particularly in charging infrastructure, gas stations, and workshop equipment, are essential to support these innovations.
Logistics solutions, including supply-chain management and intermodal logistics systems, are critical for efficient transportation. Safety solutions, focusing on vehicle safety, load securing, and theft protection, continue to be a priority. Additionally, services such as financing, insurance, and leasing offers are evolving to support the industry’s transformation.
